Rep. Barton Comments on Speaker Election

Statement

"The Republican Conference met today with the intention of nominating our candidate for Speaker of the House. Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy has withdrawn from the race in order to promote unity in the Republican Conference. I commend him for this selfless act. I will continue to work with him in his role as Majority Leader.

As a consequence, the current Speaker has postponed the conference election of a new Speaker candidate to a date in the near future. The Texas Republican delegation has met and has collectively decided to not endorse any candidate, but to be unified in support of a conservative candidate that shares Texas values. That candidate may, in fact, be a Texan."
